Below is the organization of people that make up Rosscraft Innovations Inc.. There are a vast number of members that allow our organization to get the information and intruments out to the many research technicians and users around the world.

President - Mary Ross

Mary L Ross B Ed
Mary Ross is President of Rosscraft, an instrument design, manufacturing and distribution company in business since 1981, and President of Turnpike Electronic Publications Inc, a US based company. As the president of both companies, she conceives her role as creating the framework for innovation.

Unlike the usual pyramidal organization chart, she prefers to look at organizations as mobile polyhedrons. Each individual is linked to every other individual. When the polyhedron moves with the ambient conditions, anyone with the requisite talent may be momentarily at the uppermost, apexial leadership position. She sees organization and administration as enabling people to apprentice themselves to one another. She does not accept that there is a hierarchy of tasks everything is important in a complex enterprise.

Mary's initial experience in working with people was as a camp leader and waterfront director at a Campfire Girls' camp in Oregon during her teen age years. She continued for two summers after she graduated from the University of Oregon.

After her marriage to Bill Ross in 1961, they lived in Vallejo, California for two years. During this time she served as a substitute teacher in a variety of multi ethnic schools. They moved to San Diego for four years before coming to Canada in 1968. She organized Campfire Girls in Canada and conducted day camps at her acreage on the South Surrey peninsula. She also served as a substitute teacher in Surrey for a year.

Always interested in sport, Mary was a skating mother to daughters, Linda and Laurie. She was also a senior competitor in Precision Skating when the sport was evolving. For 13 years she managed a Coaches' Club Job Opportunities Service for the BC Section of the Canadian Figure Skating Association. She adopted the policy of "information, not advice" and helped coaches and clubs develop employment practices that are still in place. She has served the sport in various executive positions and was the team leader for the BC Coast Region for competition. She is an Advisory Board Member of the Douglas College Coaching Diploma Course.

Mary is an avid curler and often had executive positions in her club leagues. During the summer, she and Bill migrate whenever possible to Rosshaven, their family cabin. It is located in the woods surrounding Johnston Lake, a pristine area that reputably has the clearest waters in Canada (a claim made by the the habitants of more than a few lakes!). At Rosshaven, the beauty of the surroundings and the isolation are conducive to reflective thinking and innovation. "We can operate a computer off a generator or solar power and have satellite communication”. Everyone everywhere is a next door neighbor. Technologically possible: exactly as envisioned and by a polyhedron managed company with many friends and colleagues rich in talent."

CEO - Margaret Savage
Margret V Savage BSc, Msc, MEd, PhD
A highly versatile former faculty member of the School of Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University, Dr Savage was a participant in the 1972 Koerner Study group that recommended the adoption of the classical anthropometry, anatomical nomenclature and conventions basic to Anthropometry Illustrated.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Rosscraft Innovations Incorporated, she brings a wide background in sport, sport administration, physiology and research to the task of moving into the new era for new instrumentations, software, innovative curricula, interactive textbooks and learning systems.

Dr. Savage is a recipient of the 15 year Coaching Award of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America; Master Coach of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America; and is the first woman coach elected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame. The Margaret and Paul Savage Swimming Pool at Simon Fraser University was named in their honor.

Her successful past, she says, is only a prelude for tomorrow. We have new tools and we should use them to create an excitement and irresistibility for learning. This means moving from content to concept based curricula and involving students in substantive problem solving enterprise.

When Paul was only partially ambulatory in his eight year bout with cancer, Marg, took up weight training to to assist. She was strong and determined. So much so, that Shaun Thomas, her former personal fitness trainer and Dieter Stramm, White Rock Weight Lifing Club, suggested she try competitive weightlifting. She did and the rest is history.

In her fourth year, she is continues to break her world masters records and most recently was the Sinclair Cup winner as the best woman weight lifter in Canada based on performance adjusted for systematic differences in competitive categories.

As in her role as CEO for Rosscraft, Dr. Marg, is able to meld talent as she and her head coach, , former Nigerian national coach, and assistant and in Seattle and Tom Occerman, Maui, plan, coach and demonstrate training potential in their sample of one is age and gender independent.

Robin Carr

Robin Carr, BPE, MPE, PhD

A long-time faculty member of the Human Performance & Recreation Department of Langara College, Dr. Robin Carr designs materials and conducts courses in Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, and Exercise Management.

For the past 12 years he has also been a sessional lecturer teaching the Tests and Measurements course for the School of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia.
Concurrently, for ten of these years he has operated Vancouver Runners' Gaitlab, conducting video-based gait assessments on runners referred by physicians, physiotherapists, and other runners. He is knowledgeable in digital imaging and video-taped biomechanical assessments. Previously, he was a co-owner of Fitness First, a company dedicated to innovative group fitness programs featuring individually appropriate exercise.

A runner himself for over 30 years, Dr. Carr has followed both the scientific and professional literature and is able to link kinanthropometry with biomechanics and exercise physiology. As a Vice-President of Turnpike Electronic Publications Inc, he is concerned with acquisitions and the mechanics of developing multi-media teams for publications and products.

In this, he is committed to the development of Creative Units (CU's). Much as in troika training in anthropometry, he accepts that the creative process is largely a matter of seeing similarities in dissimilar things and making the mental conjunction. Thus, he envisions multi-disciplinary input in products.

IT - Gary Carroll

Gary Carroll
Gary Carroll is a papermaker by trade and a computer specialist by avocation. He is retained by Rosscraft to keep the company abreast of advancing computer technology. He regards his job as purchasing, installing and maintaining computer hard and software, so the companies can be only a baby step behind in technology, aware of what is ahead and ready for upgrading. Thus, he opts for reliable systems rather than untested new products.

He is especially adept at enabling writers and scientists to use new systems without having to bother about the idiosyncrasies of the technology. He understands the difference between "possible" and "feasible" and tests the claims of software producers before committing the companies and the personnel.

He has a perspective on the future that includes automated anthropometry, original music tracks, video clips, and simple but effective communication systems. Serving a primary and indispensable function, Gary provides us with a window on the future.

Machinist - Brian W Ross

Brian W Ross
Brian Ross is a third generation machinist. His grandfather and father, the late Tom Ross, were exceptionally talented machinists. With his father, Brian became involved in the design and manufacture of Rosscraft anthropometric instruments. In 1994, Rosscraft helped them purchase high quality computer based machinery. The Rosscraft instruments are machined from special aluminum stock and provided with a black anodized finish by Dr. Arnold Glaser's SurfTech Company that also furnishes anodizing for submersible craft. Recently, Brian’s son, Tyler, has informally apprenticed himself as 4th generation machinist

Any product can be improved. There was no question about the technical ability of Brian as a machinist. It soon became clear he had the same flair for design that Tom had. Upon Tom's death in 1996, as was the original intent, Rosscraft divested itself of their share in the machine shop and tools. A new machine shop was built on Brian's property. His commitment to the design and manufacture of anthropometric instruments continues. Because of the technical excellence of Ross Machine Inc. (a separate entity), Brian has been able to contract for custom projects in the high tech industries. He was involved in machining prototypes of a fertility meter (a device to monitor ovulation for enhancing fertility or avoiding pregnancy). He also designs and manufactures machinery for bottling plants, portable saw mills, and water craft.

Under mutual non disclosure agreements, Brian and Joe Dorie, President of Oregon Rule Company Ltd, meld their inventive and technical ability to design and manufacture
Rosscraft instruments.

Brian is a mountain bike enthusiast, nationally rated master’s BMX racer and skier since he was three years old challenging slopes of Red Mountain, Rossland, BC.

Joesph Dorie BME

Joesph Dorie BME
Joseph E Dorie founded the Oregon Rule Company in 1981. Joe made his first adhesive backed rule to provide, a high quality, accurate, inexpensive, versatile industrial rules. This lauched the Handy RuleTM series of adhesive back rules that established the company. To-day, the product line has expanded to over 4,000 selections using mechanical, graphic and industrial art and many state-of-the art processes. Besides the standard selections, the company is committed to research and development and production from 1-off prototypes to 100,000 plus production runs.

Joe brings his practical knowledge as a tool-and die apprentice during college years and combined his education and business experience. Expanding on his Mechanical Engineering college education, his main role in the company is as Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer. For him this is a continuous learning adventure involving haudralics/pneumatics, metallurgy, materials engineering, support engineering for sales, machine installation, trouble shooter, training instructor and chief engineer, This and the selection and nurturing of talent among employees has made ORC the undisputed leader in industrial custom measurement.

Oregon Rule Company is housed in a new facility in an Industrial Park in Oregon City, Oregon, USA, This is an ideal environment and an advantage since the State of Oregon does not have a sales tax and Rosscraft can import through NAFTA agreements, or distribute from our depot in Blaine, Washington.

Oregon rule company motto is “We Measure UP, Down, Sideways and in Circles!” Indeed, Oregon Rule products are pervasive: the crime movies on TV with measuring tapes, photographic templates for size of bullet holes, and other medical and forensic tools and devices were designed by Joe and company, as are veterinary medical instruments and many other special purpose instruments with private labeled products by leading companies.

Under mutual non disclosure agreement, Joe and Brian Ross (Ross Machine Incorporated) are modifying and designing new Rosscraft anthropometric instruments in association with other creative units involved in production of instructional and learning materials, software and various involvement projects through Rosscraft Research and Development Division.

Joe is an enthusiastic fisherman and will find Rosshaven on Johnson Lake where time stands still facilitates the act of creation. It is a joyous occasion for pondering different perspectives and possibilities with other friends of Rosscraft who have a special gift for invention and innovation that may have absolutely no relevance to instruments and machinery other than axes, chainsaws, solar panels, and other camp craft and the practicality of living with nature.
